The EVN is the owner of the nuclear reactor. How an innovative energy provider has turned a nuclear power plant into a solar power source

The Zwentendorf Nuclear Reactor is the safest atomic power plant in the world – simply because it never went into operation. It was purchased by the EVN in 2005.

EVN is a leading international energy and environmental service provider, noted on the Vienna Stock Exchange, with its headquarters in Lower Austria, the largest Austrian state. It provides customers with electricity, gas, heat, water, thermal waste processing, and all the necessary services required of a central provider.

With its services, EVN secures and improves the quality of life for more than three million customers in 18 countries and has successfully positioned itself not only in Austria, but in Bulgaria and Macedonia as well. In the environmental field, EVN is, with various subsidiaries, successfully providing water, sewage disposal and thermal waste processing. In the fiscal year 2008/2009, the company had a total revenue of 2.7 billion Euros.

In 2009, EVN built a photovoltaic plant on the roof of the former Zwentendorf Nuclear Reactor and has been providing solar energy from this historical location since then.
